Zinc Oxide thermal grease has been the mainstay T.I.M. (thermal interface material) choice of the heatsink industry for over 15+ years. It works, it's cheap, and it's easy to apply.

Zinc Oxide is better than any thermal pad that might come with a heatsink. Sold in a blister pack, the contents usually provide enough grease to cover at least ten traditional CPU/GPU cores. There is no way to seal the blister pack back up - so it's a one time use product.
